FROOB DYNASTY LEAGUE - Who is in?

I had tried to get people together to do this just before the old RC went down, but that obviously didn't work out. This World of Abe aka Froob Chat is great though, and I think it'd be super fun to start an official Froob Fantasy League. Would be really fun.

Is anyone in to start a dynasty or empire league? Nothing big for buy in, but enough to keep it interesting. I'd prefer to keep annual buy-in to under $50.

Here are the details I had in mind, but am open to adjusting if the majority of people want to:

- 12 or 14 team league (I hate 8 and 10 person leagues)
- Superflex (meaning your flex spot can be a QB) - QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/1Flex/1K/1D
- Yahoo for league management
- Slack for league chat (free group chat app)
- Leaguesafe for handling money
- Start-up draft to be conducted as soon as we get enough people.

Rules/Scoring:

- Empire Format (dynasty that re-drafts completely if someone wins the championship two years in a row)
- $20 buy in
- PPR
- Superflex (QB is eligible for the flex spot)
- QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/Flex/K/Def/16 bench spots
- 4 points for passing TD, -2 for INT
- 6 points for rush, receiving, return TD
- 1 point per 25 yards passing
- 1 point per 10 yards rushing, receiving
- 1 point per 10 yards kick return, punt return yardage
- Draft to be held “email style” over chat or in a thread as soon as we fill and everyone pays. 24 hour max to make your pick of you are skipped ala the real NFL draft.

Few things to keep in mind.

1) Its a long term commitment. Having in be more than 12 increases the risk of a owner drop out.. Usually drop outs happen because their team isnt very good and hard to get someone to pay for a bad team.

2) 25 man team and 12+ teams draft online needs stricter draft rules or it may not end. If someone misses a pick or few, may get some upset owners off the start.

Couple suggestions

#1 Stalemate rule and dropout protection:
Stalemate can be done two ways. Automatic full redraft at 5 year mark if empire hasnt been one. Can make it at any year mark. 4-6 years.
Or
at a certain year mark, dynasty turns more into a keeper league. Which again can go a few different ways.
Keeper options:
A release of x amount of players each team. After a declared year.
Keeper declared for x amount each year and decreasing year to year.
Also can put in a clause of not keeping the same player twice in a row.

#2)
If dropout happens. Team becomes a ghost team. Which stays and who ever plays that team in the schedule gets an automatic win. While waiting for full redraft or keeper like process takes place.
Or
Team just gets released to the rookie draft.

Also for draft. Less time for skipped picks during the week and no penalty for weekend or holidays.

An auto pick system should still be in place.
Simply using a 1-300 ranking chart for missed picks to keep it even for all.

Correct. This is a longterm commitment.

My other dynasty leagues have rules to try to combat drop outs negatively affecting the league.

These are SUGGESTIONS, but we do not have to for sure use these rules:

1. Pay two years worth of entry fees initially, so for us, that would $40 instead of $20. That makes it so you have already invested in 2019 and would be less likely to quit.

2. You cannot trade future draft picks further out than 2019. So you can trade next year's picks, but not 2020. Prevents teams from destroying their team's longterm future and then quitting.

3. If someone drops out, we replace that team, and award what amounts to a "compensatory" pick or offer the new owner free league entry for the first year.

4. IF there is more than one team that needs to be replaced, (let's say there are two teams needing to be replaced), we could consolidate the players from both teams' rosters and those two owners can have a dispersal draft so that each owner at least gets a little control of who they start off with.

My reasoning is that this is dynasty. You should be rewarded for building a strong team through the draft and trades, like a real life GM would be. If we have too few teams, and too few rosters spots, there are too many good players available on waivers. Part of building a great roster in dynasty is having the foresight and knowledge to accumulate depth on your roster so that if you have an injury, you cannot simply just go onto waivers and pick up a very good player. I want waivers to be relatively thin so that owners are rewarded for building their teams well.

14 teams, in my opinion is perfect. Your starting lineup isn't made up of entirely All-Pro players like an 8 or 10 (and to a lesser extent, 12) team league, and less "luck" is involved. The owners who smartly build their teams are given an advantage over owners who are apathetic, which we want.

You're right, that does make sense.

I just hate 14-team leagues where you're drafting the back-up to the back-up in the last 3-4 rounds or whatever.

But in Dynasty/Empire leagues, you're drafting rookie 4th string WRs who might be good players 2-3 years down the road in the later rounds rather than the players who you'll end up drafting and dropping right away like in 14-team leagues.

I also hate 10-team leagues where everyone's bench consists of starters.
