Re: Summer 2026 Trade/FA Thread
Memphis just picked up the options on two young Fs - Olivier-Maxence Prosper and GG Jackson. Hmmm. One of them has a 14 letter first name and the other with 2.
Lakers PG Marcus Smart is declining his option to test the FA market. He played in 67 games last year - after just 27 in the prior two combined. Smart is 32 years young.
Philly picks up the options on Dom Barlow and Dalen Terry - but lets Trendon Watford hit FA market. He should be a possible cheap option for us.
Pacers pick up the option on C/PF Micah Potter - and the Mavs do the same with PG Ryan Nembhard. Ditto for the Raptors and Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Funny how so many teams have young PF hopefuls (I just mentioned five) and our cupboard is pretty barren. I do wonder if Enrique Freeman showed enough last year that mgmt is actually thinking of bringing him up to the bigs.

He had a nice run in the G last year for us - so maybe. Lunch pail third string type. 28 games in Iowa - 17.6 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, and 1.7 stocks on 65%/34%/74%. The threes weren't entirely slight - 33 of 96, so a bit more than 1 make per game. Freeman does seem to be cut from that Kenrich Williams/Trendon Watford cloth - so maybe there's a role for him in the bigs. 6-9 220 with a 7-2 WS.Oriole81 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2026 1:05 pmI heard we did tender him, so we at least want him back.somuchyummy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2026 12:49 pm Memphis just picked up the options on two young Fs - Olivier-Maxence Prosper and GG Jackson. The only problem is, they lost the straw that stirs that drink. Not saying they won't continue to shoot a ton of 3's, just that they may not be as efficient.
For instance, when playing without LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets rookie Kon Knueppel's three-point percentage drops significantly, sitting at 35.7% in those minutes, compared to an elite 51.4% when sharing the floor with LaMelo.
That's not a small sample size either:
With LaMelo Ball: 51.4% from 3-point range (923 minutes)
Without LaMelo Ball: 35.7% from 3-point range (879 minutes)

All sorts of option news.
OKC picks up the option for Dort - but does not on Kenrich Williams.
Shamet resigns with NY - 4yrs/$24M. Champagnie with the Spurs - 3yrs/$45M. Nurk Nurk with Utah - 2yrs/$22M. (Hey does that mean Filipowski should be added to our list?)
Kuminga is set free by the Hawks to try his luck as a UFA. I will imagine he wants much more money than teams will be willing to pay. At some point, the shine fades off even the shiniest apples.

Thinking about this Ja trade. Wow. Jerami Grant must really be a negative asset if he had to be attached to another player to make this deal happen. I don't understand it. I'd want either Grant or Murray on my team before Ja.

Harrison Barnes gets a one year/$8M deal with the Spurs. Seems like a lot actually for what, at this point, is a locker room guy. On the other hand, the Spurs have a load of cheap young talent. One year more with Barnes at that price makes sense.

Toronto declines Jonathon Mogbo's option. He's someone I'd give a second look at. The Bucks decline Ousmane Dieng's option as well - he's another. Dieng had one of those late season ridiculous stat lines that needs to be taken with copious grains of salt - however, it does point to some untapped potential. April Fools Day loss to Houston - he put up a 36/7/10 line.

Re: Summer 2026 Trade/FA Thread
I think the only way that happens is for a player making 9-10 million on a 3 or 4 year deal that another team wants to get off of and instead into expiring salary for next summer. Green is just a guy. Lots of guys like him in the league.Mnsportsfan22 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2026 6:33 pm They just need to get lucky and have a team trade a 2nd rounder for Josh Green.

Re: Summer 2026 Trade/FA Thread
From a financial standpoint is weird that Taurean Prince would opt in at $3.82 million. That is the league min and the opt in is just for one year. Unless there is something wrong with him he could get that salary easily and he could get two years on a new vet min contract. I think he could even have some interest in a biannual exception level contract or even some parts of a MLE deal, getting more money and more years. Maybe the Bucks will extend him after the opt in?somuchyummy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2026 6:22 pm C Colin Castelton gets a QO from Orlando - making him an RFA.

Sad note to see Nic Batum there. He was a forum darling in my early days on the KFAN site. And then we signed him to an offer sheet when he was a restricted free agent in 2012. Of course Portland matched it but it was exciting times indeed. 18 years in the NBA, he will be 38 this season. It looks like it might be over for Nic. He is one of 6 players left from the 2008 NBA Draft, the last Kevin McHale ran as the Wolves GM. (Westbrook, Kevin Love, Eric Gordon, Brook Lopez, Nic Batum, and 2nd rounder DeAndre Jordan the oldest drafted 2nd rounder).
There are 4 players left from 2007 draft: Durant, Horford, Conley, Jeff Green.
1 from the 2006 draft: Kyle Lowry
1 from 2005: Chris Paul
None from 2004
1 from 2003 : Lebron James
It will be interesting to see how many of them return for 2026-27. Paul is done. I think Lowry is too. Batum, Gordon, Jordan, Conley, Jeff Green, and Kevin all seem to have reached the point of being done.
