I think they can squeeze just enough space for Russell if they really have the chance.jodaman01 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 12:26 pmSo we Dump Wiggins and get Russell. Leonard runs to the clippers. Do the raptors have cap space to absorb Wiggins or do we do some kind of sign-and-trade 3-way deal with the Raptors and Nets?
This will be fascinating to see if rosas can pull something off here. I personally just don’t see it unless we’re willing to move Covington. Then maybe.
Like it or not....Wiggins has talent..likely more than anything we would ever get in return for him. Let Saunders see if he can get it out of him on a consistent basis.
If the team was left as is and just added one of the talented picks at 11 that were still on the board, we would be a better team than we are right now after this draft.

can we pump the brakes a little in our enthusiasm to get russell? he had a great year last year - all-star selection - but before that he was a fairly middling, and often disappointing, player in the league. so we're basing all this on mostly one season. i'm still not convinced that DAR's all-star appearance won't be an oddly bright footnote in his career, much like it's been for jeff teague. max contract? not yet, i don't think.
All Time Draft 2025
PG - Kidd, Iverson, D Johnson
SG - Reggie, Hill, Richmond
SF - Kawhi, Hawkins, Ellis
PF - Hakeem, Cowens, Perkins
C - Wilt, Alonzo, Thurmond
There is little difference between the memory of a real event and the memory of a dream.

And the other options are? I think Russell is a long shot. But I would not pass on him either. Towns. Russell. Wiggins That is a decent core group if you can get a couple of spacers to go with it. Culver-Covington-Okogie are decent starts to tgat group.somuchyummy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 12:48 pm can we pump the brakes a little in our enthusiasm to get russell? he had a great year last year - all-star selection - but before that he was a fairly middling, and often disappointing, player in the league. so we're basing all this on mostly one season. i'm still not convinced that DAR's all-star appearance won't be an oddly bright footnote in his career, much like it's been for jeff teague. max contract? not yet, i don't think.

Yeah, you're probably right. Could be trying to dump DAR's salary in a couple years.somuchyummy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 12:48 pm can we pump the brakes a little in our enthusiasm to get russell? he had a great year last year - all-star selection - but before that he was a fairly middling, and often disappointing, player in the league. so we're basing all this on mostly one season. i'm still not convinced that DAR's all-star appearance won't be an oddly bright footnote in his career, much like it's been for jeff teague. max contract? not yet, i don't think.

towns. russell. wiggins. is not an exactly overwhelming core group. towns, yes. russell, jury IMO is still out. and with wiggins, i think the jury's been in with the verdict for more than a few years. the only way this deal makes sense to me is if we are able to move wiggins - and go for a KAT-russell core while keeping cov and bringing along culver and okogie. i have no faith in a core that includes andrew wiggins.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 1:01 pmAnd the other options are? He was screwed when traded to Minnesota. If he stays in Cleveland he is 3rd option on offense to start his career. He gets to work on his game, concentrate on role and defense, and let James’ talents help him improve.
I think tge Cavs are better too and Wiggins would have really improved each and every year.
Bad players don’t put up the string of games Wiggins has at his age. Tgat the Wolves could not maximize his talent is not surprising.

Except a team will take Teauge with little incentive, that is what makes it stupid. Dieng is a different story because he will actually cost you something to move. However, his dead cap number isn't going to help going forward. But it is still better to keep a first IMO. Reasonable minds can disagree on that. Personally, I don't make a play on Dlo and keep the picks and space, it just takes time.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 1:53 pmAgain, it isn’t if you have a move to make to improve your team. Not sure this alone will work, though it would be the best, if Taylor is willing to spend about $52M on guys that won’t play.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 1:37 pmWhy do tgat? By my calculations, stretching Teague and Dieng would save around $23M. Teague is $19M now, stretched over 3 years is about $6.33M or a savings of $12.67M. Dieng is owed about $33.5M over two years, so stretched to 5 that’s about $6.7M/year. That’s vs the $16M and change he’s due this year. Let’s be generous and call that a $10M savings on the cap. That clears us about ~$23M, give or take.
According to sportrac, we’re currently ~$4M over the cap. So this would give us about $19M of space. But we have a cap hold on Culver to account for as well.
First, we’d have to renounce all our FAs: Gibson, Tolliver, Rose, Jones, etc. all gone. But we’d still have incomplete roster charges for each spot not filled of, I think, around $900K per spot.
I’m not sure we end up with more than $10-12M in real space if we stretch Teague and Dieng (again, assuming Taylor is willing to burn ~$52M) and I don’t think that’d be enough for Russell. We’d have to make additional moves to get him, I think.

It is close. That’s the point. If you have a chance to sign Russell or another target, it is potentially possible. If Russell is available you do it.Beef Supreme wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 2:05 pmNot sure this alone will work, though it would be the best, if Taylor is willing to spend about $52M on guys that won’t play.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 1:37 pmWhy do tgat? Re: Wolves in on D'Angelo Rusell?
That’s the only way I see this going down. If there’s a team out there that values Wiggins and Russell makes it clear that he wants to come here. If the Nets are the team that values Wiggins, then sign-and-trade Russell for Wiggins and whatever filler ma or may not need to grease the wheels. If it’s a different team that wants Wiggins, then we need to make a complex three-team (or more) deal to make it happen. That’s still contingent on Russell wanting to come here.Thrillkill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 2:09 pmDon't think you can stretch more than 1 guy. Unless that has changed you couldn't before. You can stretch any contract you want. So we can make a play for it. It depends on how realistic the possibilities are of signing a guy.Thrillkill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 2:09 pmDon't think you can stretch more than 1 guy. Unless that has changed you couldn't before. As far as the “stupidity” of using stretch, it doesn’t impact our cap situation in a meaningful way and believing it will be cheap to move Teague is ridiculous.

Warren is not an expiring, he is a three year commitment to 10+ million per. Although I am surprised no one wanted him. For some reason he is not the commodity you would think he would be and you have to wonder why? What are the red flags? You would think he would GET a first. Anyways, it doesn't make my claims idiotic, not the ones you are referring to anyways.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 3:05 pmThe TJ Warren deal makes your claims idiotic. You can stretch any contract you want. So we can make a play for it. It depends on how realistic the possibilities are of signing a guy.
As far as the “stupidity” of using stretch, it doesn’t impact our cap situation in a meaningful way and believing it will be cheap to move Teague is ridiculous.

Phoenix didn't want anything besides cash in that trade. For the same reason Saric was enough to get us from 11 to 6.mlhouse wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 3:05 pmThe TJ Warren deal makes your claims idiotic. Phoenix's only goal was creating cap space.
Using either of those trades as the barometer for other trades with other teams is flawed logic at best, idiotic at worst.

Well you would still think furure 1st should have been a reasonable enough of an ask to create a trade market. They take back less monetary commitment that way than taking this years #32.j2j wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 4:37 pmPhoenix didn't want anything besides cash in that trade. It was obvious they were trying to clear cap space, and their moves were widely panned as completely boneheaded. As I said, using those trades as a judge for other trades is just stupid.
It's also a great example of why hiring a former player as your POBO or GM might not be a good idea.

I believe Rosas sees the same path to Russell that he saw to Garland:

Sac and the Knicks. If Durant and Kyrie goto Brooklyn, Harris stays, Jimmy goes to the Clips....yada yada....the could easily strike out and really have a team that is just role players until RJ gets himself.Dubs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 7:17 am We’re at the salary cap ceiling currently ($109M). So, it comes down to two things: a) How much is DLo going to command per year, and b) How will you free up that money to make an offer?
Wiggins ($27M), Teague ($19M), &/or Dieng ($16M) are your options assuming RoCo ($11M) is off the table.
A look at the teams with space to absorb Wiggins, & to me, only SAC stands out - regardless, such a tough deal to make.
Teague alone isn’t going to get you there - therefore, it may become a dump of both Teague & Dieng while taking back some long-term salary (around $10M; assuming DLo will be around $25M per).
