Exactly. It's sad. Player prop bets are the worst IMO - and should just be banned. Too many ways to skin that cat.

I don't think there is anything that can be done that will stop refs and players to stop gambling especially props. It's too juicy. I can't imagine the mental toil it puts in their heads though if they lose a big game but win a big bet or vice versa. This includes playing fantasy as well.

From a legal standpoint, they should be pursued to the regular extent of the law, both criminally and civally.

From the league standpoint, I'd be fine with permanent banning. But I'd draw the line at taking away benefits they've already earned (pension, insurance), as that is their money that's already been earned.
