I made it 12 in that mess. I headed out in standard cotton crew fit socks so had to double back to change into some dri-fit running socks at about 8 miles. My shoes were audibly slushing with every step!

Well Weimy, it wasn't the easiest, but all that matters is the job getting done and that's what we do here. Woke up at 4 and had a 1.5 qt container of frozen yogurt, a slice of cake and a handful of granola bars before setting sail around quarter after 5. The sun was a rising and with the humidity, I was sweating quickly and bracing for some sunburns. Make it up to Maka around mile 12 when a downpour commences leaving people seeking refuge under the Pavilion, but being a glutton for punishment I keep pushing like a foo. The rain lets up after a couple more miles, only to come back with a vengeance not too long thereafter. Took a dump around mile 25 and at the half way point, I headed to the Uptown Cub's to get a 2 liter of Pineapple Crush. Around mile 40 or so, the sun starts to come out to sorta kinda dry me out a little bit, but gosh darnit, with wet feet came some nasty blisters, so we leave Maka around mile 49 to trudge back home before hitting that glorious 62 mile mark. Where was this heat Fox 9 was warning us about?weimy froob wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 9:54 pmgood luck. your report after this run will be an interesting read with this weather.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 9:07 pm Getting up in 7 hours to sugar binge before hitting the pavement. I rep Thorlo socks with their extra padding for ultra distances. Not sure they're the best at keeping the feet dry tho.

i posted this in the hot day thread in the main forum. i thought the rain would be good for you--but didn't think about socks so wet from the downpour that your feet would be squishing around and blistering up. that sounds like pure agony. take care of those feet.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:43 pmWell Weimy, it wasn't the easiest, but all that matters is the job getting done and that's what we do here. It actually started raining again not too long before getting to Cub's so it was a mix of water and sweat. i've suffered from ripped up skin between my toes from walking in soggy socks before. painful. were you feeling pain/thinking about your feet on every step you were taking after they blistered up? or were you able to kind of fix the feet when you made your pitstop? ever think of just going home and doing this run a couple of weeks later?Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 4:18 pmWet feet and shoes that are too tight. 2 things that can doom a runner over the course of 100 miles.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:49 pmi posted this in the hot day thread in the main forum. i thought the rain would be good for you--but didn't think about socks so wet from the downpour that your feet would be squishing around and blistering up. that sounds like pure agony. take care of those feet.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:43 pm

Given the smooth pavement, it wasn't as bad as a trail race I did last year on more unforgiving terrain. Could barely put my shoes on to go to the grocery store after that event. Didn't think about quitting, just had to slow the pace down a little bit.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 4:48 pmi've suffered from ripped up skin between my toes from walking in soggy socks before. painful. were you feeling pain/thinking about your feet on every step you were taking after they blistered up? or were you able to kind of fix the feet when you made your pitstop? ever think of just going home and doing this run a couple of weeks later?Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 4:18 pmWet feet and shoes that are too tight. 2 things that can doom a runner over the course of 100 miles.weimy froob wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:49 pm

Re: Any Outdoor Runners?
Yes, fellas, it was another dynamite Saturday with the high temps and all. Got my butt up at 4 to devour the rest of this exquisite birthday cake then topped it off with a good 5 or so granola bars before heading out. Started out going down Cedar Lake Trail to Downtown for 7 miles whereafter we go through Uptown and South Minneapolis before arriving at Nokomis at mile 13. A little nausea creepin in from perhaps too much fiber intake, but we pillage on. Run some laps around the lake before hitting the marathon mark which means it's time to trek to the Cub's off 46th and Hiawatha. Selection was limited so we decide to splurge on the 2 liter of Strawberry Fanta. Head back for more laps around the lake until we hit mile 43 whereafter we pop a watermelon electrolyte tab and take off for Uptown Cub's to get some Strawberry Lemonade Sunkist. Head over to run 2 laps around the Maka before heading home to hit the 100k mark. Interesting fact: Did not take in any solid food during the run.

Takes about an hour or 2 for the adrenaline to subside. Pop some Tylenol and we're good to sleep for as long as my heart desires.

Got me a basic headlamp from REI that gets the job done. Guess I don't mind the sound of cars passing and birds chirping. Well boys, it was damp and soggy at times, but you know we know how to persevere over here. Had some chocolate Teddy Grahams and plain ol vanilla ice cream after calling it a day at the home office before heading out. 4 miles in and my shirt is quite soaked so I turned around to go back home and grab my rain jacket not knowing what the future may hold. Screw going to Plymouth Cub's, just decided to do an 8 mile or so out and back on the trail near me whereafter we would proceed to venture out to West End Cub's. Arrive at Cub's at mile 28 around 2 AM or so and opted for something a little more caffeinated, that being Mt. Dew Code Red. That lasts me a good 15 miles until I make a pit stop at home and refill my bottles with some A&W. Hit up a different trail to do another out and back until we hit 53 miles and refill another bottle with A&W. Rain starts to pick up again the last 9 miles wherein we do a loop around the area before hitting 100K. Got home, had a protein bar, showered and at least tried to sleep.

Yes, there was nausea. Yes, there was diarrhea (a little in my pants even). Yes, there were blisters. Yes, there were rashes. But it wouldn't be a 100 miler without at least one thing going wrong. Woke up round 4 and housed an entire container of mini cinnamon buns whereafter we leave at 5 before the race started at 6. Plan was to drink a 17 ounce bottle of Sun Drop or Major Melon Mountain Dew every 5 miles and supplement it with good ol fashioned Tailwind. 5 miles in and I'm already feeling nauseous from overindulging in those damn delicious cinnamon buns. Hit mile 20 and the nausea subsides but the heat is on so I pour some water over my sun sleeves and neck buff and BOOM we are in business! Dew, Tailwind, gummy bears, rinse mouth with water, repeat as we pillage on, but not before lubing up my butthole with Vaseline. Things seem to be going well for a while until some hot spots start forming around the halfway mark and would only get more noticeable as the day went on. Have had worse blisters in previous races though. Mile 60 onward and I keep increasing my fluid intake to keep the calories and caffeine coming at the expense of having to pee every 2 miles. It's good to be a guy. Take another pee at mile 80, but what's that? Yup, a little poopy poo hits my underwear so we stop at the bathroom and hose the boxers and shorts down with water and soap hoping that no one noticed any possible grotesque stains on the backside of the shorts. Sun starts coming up again with about 10 miles to go, so we bust out the Twins hat again and grind it out. Sit down for about half an hour after crossing the finish line before going to shower and head back HOME!weimy froob wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 9:04 pmfollowing.Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:26 pm Just had fish and chips for dinner followed by a quarter gallon of ice cream and 2 cinnamon rolls. Race was actually bout 50 percent grass 50 percent dirt, but I was expecting smoother terrain on the dirt. Sit down for about half an hour after crossing the finish line before going to shower and head back HOME!

got it. "your foots" was supposed to be "your foot is sore".Miley Cyrus wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 6:49 pmAssuming my feet are back to 100% in a couple weeks, it's back to business.
