Re: Wolves in on D'Angelo Rusell?
Do you think the Wolves would do this trade (proposed in Froob Mock Draft)
Cleveland trades Tristan Thompson's expiring for
Gorgui Dieng, 2019 2nd round pick from Miami, and 2022 first round pick lottery protected 2022-24, if not conveyed in 2024 reverts to 2024 and 2025 Minnesota 2nd round picks (remember that means MN is out of lottery).
The net of the trade is saving $17 million for a first and a 2nd.

I don't think Dieng is the contract to move with a first. It sucks but it's only two more years.

Temporary kind of fit but no huge loss of value. Big city doesn't have to think the same but I'd sure be scared for my job if I let him go for shit and he ends up better than Kyrie and goes farther in the playoffs. It happened to Bos.OliverMiller wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:04 pmFair points but with Kyrie I don't think there is any fit.Thrillkill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 3:58 pmNot saying they wouldn't want to but what if the offers are shit and their maneuvering gives them room under the lux? Russell is as much 2 as PG. Why would they straight cut bait for squat if they don't have to?OliverMiller wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 3:53 pm
I think they'd do a sign and trade in that spot. I think they know Kyrie is coming and I have a hard time seeing them pair up.
But Wolves are still in a tough spot and their best position is probably to sit and wait. If they were to offer a contract and the Nets matched then they couldn't do a sign and trade with them.
They have to wait 1 year to trade him if they match. They also get him for less and only 4 instead of 5. Then they'd get a lot more for him.
They'd be better off moving him if they are committing to Kyrie for fit reasons. And there are plenty of teams that would give up assets. At minimum probably the player taken by the Suns.

Holy crap I thought Prince made way more. They get like 16 mil in space. Guess that explains the 17 and a protected future.
Still would never have done it. Getting the feeling Atl is moving up for Barrett now.

Yeah, but you are getting Tristan Thompson back. This frees up money to go out and sign a MLE level player, which you have to put in the formula.Thrillkill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:14 pmNot to mention he's useful at a spot we are thin. But if you get below and spend space you don't get the MLE so we really gain nothing on that front. Thompson brings more rebounding but not by much and Gorgs can shoot. I get the next year space part but I think we'd have a better deal before next year's FA for Dieng. Now if Pho strikes out in FA and wants a PG for a year and will just take Teague for nothing that might be different. Then we have room this year. Seems unlikely though and I just can't make giving up any picks sound good. There is one thing that is consistently our downfall and that's not using assets to their fullest.mlhouse wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:23 pmYeah, but you are getting Tristan Thompson back. He's talking this year's 2nd and a future 1st. But minus someone taking Teague for next to nothing it doesn't get us any more space this year. Next offseason we should be able to move Dieng much easier if we want to. We'd also have a better idea of where we are and wouldn't be spending in the new fuck up and spend year.SO_MONEY wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:39 pmAwful. It makes adding a MLE player this season possible, something that Taylor probably will not do with Dieng's contrct still on the books. Even with the expiring deal, dumping Dieng's contract will not be easy. You have to take contract back or include an asset to get rid of any contract.Thrillkill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:47 pmHe's talking this year's 2nd and a future 1st. I do take your point about the fuck up and spend year though. There is a lot of money out there. But it is the opportunity to shed a very bad contract in my opinion, again, it is netting $17 million for a first and 2nd. That is a good deal.

2. We need draft picks and 2022 is about as valuable as they come as the HS kids can enter.
3. We can just wait for Gorgi to expire and give up nothing.

The MLE won't push you into the LUX even without a trade. So your reason is no reason at all. It is a bad deal. Just let Gorgi expire.mlhouse wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:52 pmIt makes adding a MLE player this season possible, something that Taylor probably will not do with Dieng's contrct still on the books. I think that the level of payroll that Glen would look at isn't based on the luxury tax. It is that with Gorgui Dieng onthe books for 2020-21 he will have $90 million guaranteed to just 4 players with a team that hasn't demonstrated they are going to win anytime soon. Dumping Dieng's contract means they get a bit of breathing space and more opportunity to add a long term contract.SO_MONEY wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:56 pmThe MLE won't push you into the LUX even without a trade. This team is a mediocre at best team with a bloated payroll. A move to give you flexibility is very valuable.
I do agree with Thrill's point, something that I have brought up before, there is so much cap space out there that teams are going to be bidding crazy deals. It might not be the year to even think about a MLE level player even if you can dump Dieng.

Even if you are right about what Glen wants to spend, you are wrong that he would move a first or want to spend in this market. Which makes your reason (MLE) not a reason at all. And it is more a next year problem. Which makes you wrong. And makes this a bad deal. But what makes it a truly awful deal is the 2022 pick (high school year), but any pick makes it a bad deal as we could wait a year and keep it. It is just all around bad.

Re: Wolves in on D'Angelo Rusell?
My big question is if Kyrie is a lock there who else goes there? Stephen A said Durant has no interest in going there. If I'm them I'm not spending another max on a near max levle old guy. I'd go after Julius Randle and some older ring chasers.
But one thing I like if they don't get a 4 is they will have interest in saric. They just showed you how much they value picks right now as they gave up 17 which was a good spot to get front court help. 27 and 31 for Saric. I will WILL this to happen.

Lol. Seriously you do not understand the difference? That Prince also had value? That dropping Crabee (18.5mil) cost either #17 or a lottery protected first? That they did not include the 2022 first an option. Your trade is just downright bad. Awful.

And that is because you have a simplistic understanding of value. Maybe you don't do the trade, but to move a bad contract like Dieng out for a lottery protected first and a second is a bargain. $17 million savings. Plus you could have the potential residual trade value of Tristan Thompson, a guy with substantial playoff experience.
Glen Taylor does that deal.

People thought that was a trash trade. But no one saw Russ ascending this season like he did. Neither did I but I was willing to gamble on him and because him and KAT are close.

Brooklyn didn’t want to include Caris Levert in any Butler trade. I’m not sure what makes you confident that they would’ve included Russell in a trade.UnFadeable21 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:58 pmBack in September in the Jimmy Butler trade thread, I said trade jimmy for Dlo, Hollis Jefferson, and Faried expiringwhiskerbiscuit wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:56 pmYup. Wolves fans don't want to believe it but that trade for RoCo and Saric goes down as one of the worst trades I've ever seen.
They traded a top 15-20 player for one turd and a role player.
Thibs was a complete stooge for this but the worst was Taylor. How do you let a guy make a trade that was such on the hot seat, that he was fired a couple months later.
ATROCIOUS!!

Re: Wolves in on D'Angelo Rusell?
Well I certainly agree that Thibideau shouldn’t have been the guy making the deal but Taylor waited 2 months to fire him. In retrospect it made no sense. Actually scratch that, most of us said it didn’t make any sense at the time.RubeTube wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 9:10 pmThis. I would of took about anything else. Even the 4 picks from Houston.whiskerbiscuit wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:56 pmYup. He was my #1 guy I hoped to get. Dealing Butler, you have to get one guy with at least the potential to be a top 3 player on a contender.UnFadeable21 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:34 pm This pipe dream isn’t happening.
We had a chance to get him in september but Thibs and most of all of you said no way.
